Globetrotting with Books: The Series & Link Up

{2016 Target: 12 Countries Explored, 0 more to go!}

History used to be this utterly boring subject in school. Pages and pages of statistics and uninspiring narration of which country plundered which. But when I read Without You there is No Us, which is a Korean’s account of the split between North & South Korea, I could not read it without having goose bumps. Like any subject, history became exciting as ever once told in form of  a story.

A good story is what distinguishes a good book from a boring one and a good movie from a bad one. Unsurprisingly, it is a key ingredient to any TED talk, have you heard one that didn’t include a story? So here I am, opening myself to historical fiction & cultures around the world. While Ann Morgan covered a book from *every* country in only a year, I figured how hard can say, 12 books a year be?

Here’s a list of books I’ve read. Click on the ones highlighted in blue to read individual reviews & thoughts!

  1. Love your list! I've been a traveller for a long time and a reader my whole life, but only this year have I started to explore the non-fiction travel/history writing genre. I've noted down your suggestions! #mondayescapes

  3. Great listing of books. My boys and I often read books about other countries. My youngest and I just read This is the Mountain; all about Mt. Kilimanjaro.

  5. I wasn't interested in history at school-for the reasons you mentioned!! I have become more interested in history as I've become older (and assuming more mature, maturity piquing an interest in the world I live in, and events that have shaped my life and those around me,) as opposed to being a self absorbed teenager to whom none of this mattered!! I love a book with a fabulous story-I will keep your list in mind!! #bigpinklink

    1. Yes, we were pretty self absorbed weren't we? Thankfully our outlook changes with every decade of our lives!
